I’m here at the Wish Bridge in LA where lots of people go to make wishes and dream about who they hope to be and what they hope to accomplish in the New Year.
While I know that hope is not a strategy, it is important to hope and wish and dream and aspire to be something more. It’s the human condition — to want to be more and feel more and do more and achieve more.
Years ago, I was part of a Mastermind group and one of the exercises was for the group to give an intention for each individual member to live into.
The intention they gave me was “Marisa is risking it all.”
And I kid you not, within 3 months I had left a relationship of 10 years, I had left my job, and I’d become a full-time entrepreneur. I was making it happen.
Then, the group gave me another intention. This time it was, “Marisa is experiencing the design of her life unfold” and here’s the interesting thing…
Even though I got that intention 8 or 9 years ago, it’s still relevant for me. To this day, I’ve never outgrown the intention of “experiencing the design of my life unfold.”
I find that it’s actually a practice of awareness, of feeling not just what I think I should do or what other people are telling me to do or what makes logical sense but to really tune in to where I’m being led and where I’m being called and what that deeper level of truth in the design for my life actually is.
And when I slow down long enough to listen to that inner voice, it often tells me things that are surprising, things that I never would have imagined for myself, things that take me to a whole other plane of experience and of being in this world.
So, as I sat on the Wish Bridge, what I wished for wasn’t something “out there,” what I wished for was to go within. I want to tune in and connect with what’s hoping to emerge and not get waylaid by this big brain that I have between my ears! The gigantic organ that’s always telling me to do so many things and telling me what my life and business should look like instead of allowing things to just be what they want to be, and what they’re evolving into.
I often tell my students — especially those in the early stages of business, trying to find their niche — that sometimes your niche finds you as much as you find it.
It’s about being willing to listen to the clues that are always there saying, “There’s something here you should be paying attention to.”
So what I’m wishing for on this Wish Bridge today is not more money or more clients but it’s more awareness of the design of my life that’s currently unfolding.
