Creating Your Themes for 2018: What’s Your Vision for the New Year?

When it comes to business I believe it’s not what you do, it’s how you do what you do that sets you out in the market and also how you feel about your business.

Every year in addition to creating goals and resolutions and visions and all that kind of stuff, I also create a personal theme and a professional theme. That’s kind of like the heartbeat of my year. It’s who I want to become through the business each year. How do I want to be in relation to the business.

Personally my theme this year is to open to receive. I really want to open to a new level of support and there are so many people out in the world who want to support me. And to allow myself to be supported so I can give in a deeper way.

As someone who gives and gives and gives and gives. It can be hard for me to really receive. To ask for support when I’m struggling, but also to receive that support when it’s offered even when I don’t ask. And so for me that heartbeat of my year, is to realize that I can become a better receiver. And when I do: My level of fulfillment, my level of abundance, is just going to go through the roof.

So what is it that you want for yourself? Who do you want to become this year? How do you want to approach everything that you’re already doing? What is that heartbeat for this year for you?

When it comes to the professional theme, I’m going to keep the professional theme that I set last year, which was to scale gracefully.

Because this year it turned out that I ended up slowing down to speed up. This was a building year. And next year is going to be a growth year. I can just feel it -- all of the work, all of the bricks that I laid down. It’s time to kind of build on top of that now.

So this coming year the theme for my business is to scale gracefully, to keep growing without losing the humanity, without losing the connection, without losing the parts of the business that I love. How can we open to serve more people without losing the essence of our soul that drives us forward? That connection between me and between you my tribe?

So my personal famous to open to receive and the professional theme is to scale gracefully.

So I want to ask you what is your personal theme? What is your professional theme? How do you want to be in relation to your business? What does the deeper undercurrent below the vision, below the goals, below the outcomes, below all the stuff that you want to do and achieve and have through this year? Who are YOU that’s emerging?

I wanted to invite you to set that personal theme and that professional theme. To realize that you can become so much more over the course of a year. But keep one thing in mind: So many people overestimate what they can do in a year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.

When you think about your next year -- yes it’s about striving and growing and emerging to this next level of who you are -- to set this personal theme, to live into this professional theme.

At the same time, know that this is just the beginning of where you’re going. Don’t be afraid to have that 10 year old, because that can be the really big goal.

This year is a step on the journey towards that bigger goal that you’re going to be celebrating 365 days from now.

I can just see it for you.

The question is can you see it for yourself?

When you can see it, when you can imagine it’s, it becomes real.

The brain does not know the difference between actually doing something and imagining it. The power of visualizing, the power of really seeing in your mind’s eye with great clarity and great detail who you want to become and what you want to do is extraordinary in actually creating it and actually becoming. So take the time to put some detail on this picture of this path that you’re walking down.

Ask yourself: Not just what do you want to do, what do you want to achieve, but how do you want to feel about that and who do you want to become through the process of doing and achieving all that? Because that’s your personal theme and that’s your professional theme.

    Hi Marisa! Great post.
I’ve got two businesses going, with two different themes.
My theme for Dolphinity this year is PQO – Prolific Quality Output. It’s Brendon B’s term, from his High Performance Habits book. This is a year for getting tons and tons of important things done – new website, new online courses, new live events, new biz and marketing systems, and more – just getting massive amounts of new creations complete and out into the world.
My theme for my daytrading biz is BREAKTHROUGH. This is the year I move from studying and preparing to playing and winning!
And my personal theme is MASTERY. In a bunch of different areas: time, money and life management, diet/food preparation, exercise/fitness/vitality, and PLAY!
Thanks as always for the gentle loving kick in the pants, and much love to you and Murray.
    Happy New Year!
